Science Diplomacy tackles Global Climate and Health Challenges

Brief

Enhancing awareness and engagement around the EU-ASEAN Research and Innovation (R&I) efforts helps to recognise their importance and the scientific advances to combat climate change, address global health concerns, and achieve sustainable developments.

Solution

Create an online experience and single entry to an “online lab” for each of the EU-ASEAN R&I days that are conducted in multiple ASEAN countries over a period of 2 months. An online platform was designed to bring all partners and interested stakeholders together, and to facilitate the exchange of scientific information and knowledge in one place. Social media and targeted outreach encouraged physical or digital interaction between scientists, the general public, aspiring researchers, policymakers and private sector investors.

Outcome

Over 10,000 people signed up to join nearly 40 sessions, and coordination through the EU Delegations and Ministries of Science in each country achieved important in-country visibility. The R&I international cooperation recognised the active contributions of EU and ASEAN scientists and academics in addressing global climate and health challenges. The platform turned into a key reference point to know and sign up for events, as well as to find all related documentation, talks, videos, or learn of how to obtain research funding.
